Full time Family Travel: How we book cheap flights using Skyscanner

The flights make the biggest dent in our budget as a travelling family. In order to travel for longer we need to keep our costs as low as possible.

We choose to travel overland using public transport as much as we can, but flying is inevitable.

So I thought I'd write a post sharing how we use Skyscanner to book cheap flights.

The first step is to choose whether you would like return flights or one way and enter the departure point. For the purposes of this example I have entered 'UK' and 'one way'.

Next, enter your destination. As we don't have a set itinerary we are going to select 'Everywhere' which will bring up a list of the cheapest destinations.

If you, like us, don't have a tight schedule the next tip will really help you get the cheapest deals as some days of the week/month are more expensive to fly than others.

Click in the date box and select whole month. Here you can click 'Cheapest Month' or the month that you wish to fly. Next select how many people will be flying and click the big green 'Search Flights' button.

You can then browse through the list of destinations and find one that takes your fancy. Once you find one click on the destination to take you to the next step.

This will bring you to a calendar screen. you can see the red, amber and green prices under each date, so you can check the cheapest flight option and click through to book from there.

You can also click on the chart option at the top of the calendar to view the dates side by side. From here click on the date of your choice.

This then brings you to a screen showing search results from lots of different airlines. If we don't need to book right away we click on the 'Get Price Alerts' button. Skyscanner then sends you email alerts whenever the prices fluctuate.

Start your flight search below:

We hope that this helps you to find cheap flights to start your family travel adventures. Don't forget to follow us on our journey here and on our social media channels.

Feel free to share this post if you think it will help others to get cheap flight deals with Skyscanner.
