For us living a healthier, more sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle means so much more than just reducing our waste and carbon footprint. It is about looking closely at each area of our lives and finding ways to make them cleaner and greener.
One of the major areas of concern for me as a parent is the chemicals we are putting on, in and around our bodies. When you read the label for your shampoo, surface spray, deodorant, body wash, detergent do you understand what all of the ingredients are? Do you know where they come from? Even the “eco-friendly” products can contain parabens, silicons and unknown “fragrances”. Did you know that the phrases “For Sensitive Skin”, “Hypoallergenic” and “Fragrance-Free” mean nothing. They are completely unregulated marketing gimmicks made up by giant companies to benefit the fat cats up top and no one else.
When we were in Sarawak a lovely man was talking to us about how his tribe use the plants from the rainforest in every aspect of their lives. He said they had done an experiment with fish. They placed 2 goldfish into separate bowls. In one bowl they poured in a cup of motor oil, in the other bowl they poured in a cup of shampoo. Obviously both fish died, but the fish in the shampoo water died within seconds, it took the motor oil way longer to kill the goldfish. That’s some pretty terrifying scientific research.
It isn’t just to save planet earth that we’re making these changes. We also plan on sticking around earth side for a pretty long time. Lots of chemicals in cleaning and beauty products contain carcinogens, you are literally spraying cancer causing chemicals around your home, and even worse on your bodies.
No thanks! Not for us anymore.
We now make our own cleaning and beauty products using natural “no poo” ingredients and essential oils. You can read more about our routines and recipes here.
Nature is magic and I want my children to grow up in a world with an abundance of nature. So as a family we are committed to working alongside nature instead of fighting against it.
I hope we can inspire you to live a more toxin free life. You can read more about our eco-lifestyle here.
